Hello, my name is Mithma Siyambalapitiya. I recently completed my Master’s in Business Analytics at Northumbria University. This program helped me build advanced capabilities in data analysis, forecasting, statistical modelling, and data-driven decision-making using tools such as R, SPSS, SAS, and Excel.
As part of my Master's, I worked on several hands-on, real-world projects. A few notable examples include: - Customer Behaviour Forecasting for a Hotel Chain: Built predictive models (Naïve Bayes, Decision Trees in R) to analyse booking cancellations and improve marketing strategies. - Retail Analytics Case for a Supermarket Chain: Used R to identify profit gaps, optimize inventory, and forecast seasonal trends for market expansion outside Tamil Nadu. - HR Analytics for global organization: Analysed attrition using SPSS and SAS to identify the impact of job satisfaction on employee turnover and proposed data-backed retention strategies. - Business Simulation Game: Led a virtual automotive company to strategic success by applying real-time decisions and performance evaluation frameworks to maximise market share and shareholder value. - Consulting Project with a charity: Worked with a live client to develop a corporate partnership strategy aimed at increasing fundraising income by £200k, using a mix of competitor analysis, stakeholder interviews, and financial modelling. - Other Analytical Projects: Included forecasting sales for a global superstore, analysing the negative impact of social media on mental health using R, and developing a data-driven competitive strategy for Adidas using Excel.
My motivation for volunteering comes from a genuine curiosity into deepening my knowledge of business analytics and to give back to the community, apply my skills in meaningful ways. Volunteering has always been a part of my life. I’ve worked on many projects as a girl guide such as Habitat for Humanity Youth Build programme.
